History 6

I left 570 in May/45 - to Warrington for shipment home. Eve had left Silver End a week ahead of me. I assumed she was on the ocean by then. I still regret how I was rushed out in a matter of a few hours, hardly time to say goodbye to my friends or get addresses. All they seemed to want was to certain that I didn't walk off with Govt. goods. Typical of the Red Tape Wallers though. On arrival at Warrington I had barely found my bunk when I was ordered to report immediately to the office. I thought it must be word of Eve so I rushed over. Instead it turned out to be snottily ground type WINCO who accused me of stealing the air force navigation watch I had been issued with earlier. He demanded that I hand it over. I finally made him phone Ted Woods at 570 who confirmed that I had turned the pesky thing in. So much for the Hero's return. |

Regret to tell that Ed Dunn died tragically of an aneurism several years ago. I was away at the time and didn’t know till I arrived back in Toronto - by then the funeral was over. Hell of a shcok. Tubby lives in Vernon B.C. with wife and children. Gil so far as I know is somewhere in New Zealand but am waiting on an answer to my note to him. No word on any of the English Lads.
