On a patrol over the ocean one of the crew left the hatch door open just beside where the navigator was. I hurdled the main spar thinking I would land on the trap door. I went right through thumpy hump, hit face on metal stairs all way down to lower deck. Stuck out my tongue and hit my nose - looked in aluminum wall which had some mirror qualities, all I could see was blood. I pushed my nose up to where it should be and got a bandaid and taped it to my forehead. They wired we were carrying a wounded man. We were met on the dock by hospital attendants. Taken to hospital at Castle Archdale in Ireland. When checked wound, it had already started to heal. After they found out length of time since accident they wanted to take it apart to treat it
I had to sign a release to hospital for all responsibilities.
Flying down west coast of Scotland after doing anti sub patrol near Salem Vac in the North Sea we spotted what we thought was a German sub and it turned out to be a British sub. Already to attack when we realized it was one of ours. The British sub was heading on a course for Scotland. To a large body of water that went right across Scotland.
