Most Memorable Operations

Wilf cites several occasions worth remembering (or forgetting).

- beat-up on Crete July 23, 1943
- attempted intercept of a German PRU aircraft (DO 217-0) over North Africa
- Squadron disposed of Hurricane 1 B aircraft then in service by flying them to a M.U. in Cairo. As pilots didn’t want to haul parachutes into Cairo for a week-end bash, none were worn on this trip. Ground crew at M.U. couldn’t believe pilots would even consider flying these clapped out aircraft without parachutes.
- port wing of Hurricane struck vulture on op in Burma. Claimed one vulture, aircraft was landed without further incident.
- on completing an early morning flight , low cloud and fog plus empty fuel tanks necessitated a wheels-up landing in a dried-up river bed. Unable to recover aircraft due to remote location. Radio flying instruments and wheels salvaged by ground crews. No damage to pilot

Wilf states that he was never shot down - very good at evasive action.
