Flew Chief of the Air Staff, Lord Tedder on a tour of Ceylon.

I had a fascinating 3 years flying the Nawab of Bhopal in Central India. Many visits to other Princely States, tiger shoots, other game hunts, trips to Europe, and a months trip to take the Nawab (a Muslim) on his pilgrimage to Mecca in Arabia.

Accompanied Lord Louis Mountbatten, when he was Viceroy of India, on a tiger hunt in Bhopal and dined with him and Lady Mountbatten around a huge banquet table in the evening. Also flew Sir Archibald Wavell when he was Viceroy before Mountbatten.

Flew Pandit Nehru from Calcutta to Delhi the day he was released from prison. I had about a 30 minute chat with him on the flight. He was the only one aboard and I served him tea and sandwiches. He was soon to become Prime Minister of India. A very interesting and compassionate man.

On June 10th 1946 with F/M Auchinleck and staff we visited and toured Hitler’s underground bunker in East Berlin. It was an incredible experience, when the Russian General touring with us showed us the spot where Hitler’s and Eva Braun’s bodies were burned.

Early Sept. 1952 I flew one sector on the first Comet Jetliner proving flight to the Far East as an operations officer. I compiled the flight plan for the first ever transatlantic passenger jet service from London to New York via Gander, Nfld. I have a copy in my files, and the date was 4th Oct. 1958.
