
George at 80yrs. - 2000
George was born on June 27, 1919 at Waterloo, Ontario. He had grade X11 and worked in the Textile industry as a Mule Spinner. He was in the Reserve Army, H.L.I. at Preston, Ontario. He enlisted in September 1941 and received his Wings at Trenton in November 1942 and was posted overseas in January 03, 1943. He received his Operational Training at #3 OTU in Dyce, Scotland. He was posted to #543 Squadron at Benson but they dissolved that squadron and George was transfered to #21 Ferry Control Squadron in India and ferried aircraft around India, such as Spitfires, Hurricanes and Hudson’s. He was then posted to #681 Squadron at Dum Dum outside of Calcutta to do Photographic Reconnaissance in Spitfire IX’s. George was cursed with Malaria.
Retired from the RCAF in Toronto in September 1945. Went to the Ontario Vetinary College and qualified as a Vetinarian. He practiced till retirement. George is married to Kay and they have two children, a boy and a girl.
George has had two open heart surgery’s also a stroke which caused the loss of sight in his left eye which has caused him to lose his driving license.
